Integration for psychedelic journeys
As part of my work in Kfar Izun, I have met many women who have reached difficult mental states due to the uncontrolled use of various substances. The psychedelic experience is powerful, multi-layered and has a significant developmental potential when it is conducted within the set and staging (for more on the subject click here) that it deserves. On the other hand, it can be a destabilizing and even disintegrating experience on a mental level. One of the ways to understand the psychedelic experience is that under the use of psychedelic substances the mental defenses seem to dissolve, which floods many unconscious contents to the surface. However, it is important to remember that defenses are essentially an important mental function and that the content that is floating can be very anxiety provoking (however, there is a reason they are not aware).
In this way, unconscious traumas from the past, hard feelings that we repressed and destructive mental mechanisms can suddenly experience their full force and shock our souls, precisely in a situation where we are sensitive and open to every little nuance in reality. Of course, contact with these mental materials requires processing, investigation and internalization of their various meanings. Even if the experience itself was positive and enriching, there is great importance in internalizing feelings such as a connection to the eternal God, a deep understanding of harmony or any other spiritual experience out of the countless possibilities.
In the tribes where the psychedelic substances are traditionally taken, the integration happens all the time within the community, which allows them the opportunity to share, understand and deepen the spiritual, emotional and mental experiences they have on these journeys. On the other hand, in Western society, a large proportion of women who currently use psychedelic substances do not make the most of their journeys due to the lack of appropriate integration that would allow them to connect the alternative realities they experienced with their "normal" reality.
